The Day I Chose Me

The Day I Chose Me

On October 15, 2019, after a management meeting, I realized enough was enough.

For years, I had poured everything into my work. I was answering calls while on vacation, constantly going the extra mile, and trying to carry responsibilities that were never meant for one person. Meanwhile, I watched unhealthy behaviors being rewarded in a toxic work environment.

The truth is, I wasn't taking care of myself.

I was experiencing burnout and compassion fatigue, yet I kept believing that if I just worked harder, things would get better.

They didn't.

That day, I made one of the hardest decisions of my professional life. I gave seven weeks' notice and walked away—not because I didn't care, but because I finally realized I had to care for myself. I was so burned out that I didn't want a party, nor did I receive anything for my hard work. That is when I realized I did the right thing, despite the uncertainty of another job on the horizon.

I promised myself that once I got back on my feet, self-care would no longer be an afterthought. It would become a priority.

That decision changed the direction of my life.

Today, self-care is more than rest. It's setting boundaries, protecting my peace, creating financial wellness, investing in my growth, and living with intention.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is choose yourself—not out of selfishness, but out of wisdom.

Have you ever reached a moment when you knew it was time to choose yourself?

Staying Connected to Community

Staying Connected to Community

One of the most overlooked forms of self-care is staying connected to your community.

As we grow older, it becomes even more important to build meaningful relationships and engage with others. Community reminds us that we are not alone. It provides encouragement, support, learning opportunities, and a sense of belonging.

Whether it's volunteering, attending community events, joining a faith community, participating in a support group, visiting a local health fair, or simply checking in on a neighbor, these connections enrich our lives and strengthen our well-being.

Isolation can quietly affect our mental, emotional, and physical health. Connection helps us thrive.

Invest in your community, and your community will invest in you.

Self-care isn't just about taking care of yourself—it's also about staying connected to the people and places that help you grow.

Give Yourself Permission to Do What You Love

Life moves quickly, and too often we spend years putting our dreams, passions, and interests on hold while taking care of everyone else.

Give yourself permission to do what you love.

Take the class. Start the business. Write the book. Travel. Learn something new. Pursue the hobby. Create the life that brings you joy and fulfillment.

You do not need permission from others to invest in yourself.

Doing what you love is not selfish—it is an important part of living authentically and honoring the gifts, talents, and purpose you were given.

Life is too short to spend it only meeting the expectations of others.

Choose joy. Choose growth. Choose you.

Burnout isn't proof that you cared too much. It's a sign that you cared without enough support."

Burnout isn't proof that you cared too much. It's a sign that you cared without enough support."

For too long, many of us have worn burnout as a badge of honor, believing that exhaustion proves our dedication. But burnout is not a measure of your commitment—it is a signal that you've been carrying more than one person was ever meant to carry.

Caregivers, leaders, parents, healthcare professionals, teachers, and those who serve others often give everything they have while receiving very little in return. Over time, emotional labor, constant responsibility, and the pressure to always be "the strong one" begin to take their toll.

You were never meant to pour endlessly without being refilled.

Support is not a luxury. Rest is not weakness. Boundaries are not selfish.

The strongest people are not those who carry everything alone—they are the ones who recognize when it's time to receive care, ask for help, and choose sustainability over survival.

If you're exhausted, don't ask yourself, "What's wrong with me?"

Instead ask, "What support have I been missing?"

You deserve to be cared for, too.

Choosing yourself is not selfish. It's how you make sure you still have something meaningful to give.

Choosing yourself is not selfish. It's how you make sure you still have something meaningful to give.

For years, many of us have been taught that putting ourselves last is what it means to care. We pour into our families, careers, communities, and everyone who needs us—until one day we realize we're running on empty.

The truth is this: you cannot continuously pour from an empty cup.

Choosing yourself doesn't mean you love others less. It means you value yourself enough to rest, heal, set healthy boundaries, and renew your strength. When you take care of yourself, you become more present, more compassionate, and more capable of serving others in a healthy, sustainable way.

If you've been feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or guilty for needing a break, this is your reminder: You matter too.

My book, Serving Without Self-Sacrifice: A Self-Care Blueprint for Caregivers, Leaders & Those Who Serve, was written for people who spend their lives caring for others but are finally ready to choose themselves as well.

Your well-being isn't a luxury—it's a necessity.

Creating Experiences Is Self-Care

Happy Motivational Monday !

Creating Experiences Is Self-Care

As I get older, I am learning that some of the best investments are not things—they are experiences.

Experiences create memories, broaden our perspective, introduce us to new people, and remind us that life is meant to be lived, not just endured.

Self-care can be as simple as taking a day trip, attending a community event, visiting a museum, going to a health fair, trying a new restaurant, listening to live music, or spending quality time with people who bring you joy.

Years from now, we may not remember every purchase we made, but we will remember how we felt, who we spent time with, and the experiences that enriched our lives.

Don't wait for the perfect time. Create experiences. Make memories. Enjoy the journey.

Life is more than surviving—it's about living.

Happy Motivational Monday !

Self-care doesn't always have to come with a price tag.

Some of the best investments in your well-being are completely free.

Attend community health fairs. Listen to podcasts that educate and inspire you. Read books from your local library. Take a walk in nature. Practice meditation and affirmations. Join a support group. Learn through webinars. Get preventive screenings. Connect with people who encourage your growth.

Taking care of yourself isn't just about spa days and vacations. It's about being proactive, staying informed, and making small choices each day that support your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

Your health is your greatest asset. Start where you are and use the resources available to you.

Self-care doesn't have to be expensive. It just has to be intentional.

Financial Preparation Is A Part of Self Care

Happy Motivational Monday !

Financial Preparation Is A Part of Self Care

One of the most important forms of self-care is taking care of yourself financially.

Whether you have a lot of money or very little, financial wellness matters. Money doesn't guarantee happiness or perfect health, but having a plan can reduce stress, provide choices, and help us navigate life's unexpected challenges.

Financial literacy is not just about building wealth—it's about being prepared. It's about creating emergency funds, understanding your finances, making informed decisions, and protecting yourself and your loved ones during difficult times.

In today's economy, self-care isn't only about rest and relaxation. It's also about planning for the future, living within your means, and creating stability and peace of mind.

Take care of your mental health. Take care of your physical health. And don't forget to take care of your financial health, too.

Preparation is an act of self-love.

It has been a privilege to support Giving Care in strengthening their foundation and commitment to quality services.

Congratulations to Giving Care on another important milestone! 🎉

Burnout isn’t a failure. It’s a signal.

Burnout isn’t a failure. It’s a signal.

A signal that you’ve been carrying too much for too long.

A signal that rest, boundaries, healing, and self-care are necessary—not optional.

For years, many of us were taught to keep pushing no matter the cost. But constantly pouring into others while neglecting yourself eventually catches up emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
That realization inspired me to write my book:

Benefits of Meditation As A Beginner

Benefits of Meditation As A Beginner

In terms of meditation, it is essential to self-care.

Each morning, I recently started practicing affirmations and meditation. I’m still a beginner, but I am already recognizing the benefits. It has helped me slow down, become more intentional, and begin my day with a calmer and more positive mindset.

In a world filled with noise, pressure, and distractions, taking even a few moments to breathe, reflect, and center yourself can make a difference.

Self-care is not always about big changes. Sometimes it begins with quiet moments of peace and consistency.

Give yourself permission to pause, reset, and grow.

Living in Authenticity and Balancing !

Living in your authenticity is freedom—but balancing it without burning yourself out is wisdom.

There was a time when I believed constantly giving, proving myself, and always being available was the key to success. Over time, I learned that authenticity also requires boundaries, rest, and protecting your peace.

You can be genuine, passionate, and purpose-driven without emotionally, mentally, or spiritually exhausting yourself.

Authenticity is not about performing for others.

It’s about honoring who you are while creating a life that sustains you.

Protect your energy. Stay true to yourself. Grow without losing yourself in the process.

Protecting your peace and knowing you have done your best.

Protecting your peace and knowing you have done your best.

Self-care begins with taking care of yourself first. Sometimes, when you reach out to help others, you must also protect your own mental and emotional well-being in the process.

Understand that when you have genuinely tried to support someone and they do not respond to your efforts, it does not mean you failed. You have done your best and fulfilled your responsibility. We do not have the power to change others, and pushing too hard can eventually leave us emotionally drained and struggling ourselves.

Protecting your peace is not selfish — it is necessary. First and foremost, protect your mental health, because you cannot pour from an empty cup. Sometimes, letting go is the best thing you can do in order to protect your sanity.

This is especially true when someone doesn't want your help or appreciate your concern.

You have to set a boundary for yourself and know you have done your duty to the best of your ability.

Finally, I also accepted the fact that many are not interested in accountability. We can't fix anyone. Let go and let God.

Self Care Requires Thinking Outside of The Box

Self Care Requires Thinking Outside of The Box

Being a solopreneur and consultant has taught me that self-care is not just rest—it’s preparation.

Thinking outside the box, having backup plans, and creating multiple streams of income are also forms of protecting your mental and emotional well-being. Constant financial stress and uncertainty can impact every area of your life.

COVID-19 taught me the importance of adaptability, resilience, and building systems that support peace of mind—not just survival.

Self-care sometimes looks like creating stability, staying prepared, and refusing to place all of your hope in one source.

Protect your peace by planning for your future.
