In the Name of Alvin — My Commitment as a Care Manager
Happy Motivational Monday!
As I look back on my 30-year journey in the human services field, one person forever changed the trajectory of my life and career — Alvin.
He sparked a fire in me to break down walls and fight for individuals with special needs who are too often forgotten by the system.
Early in my career, I worked as a case manager supporting individuals who were homeless, medically fragile, and living with addiction. Then came Alvin — a man with all those challenges and an intellectual disability. His needs were unique, but the system failed to see that.
When he struggled to follow shelter rules, I advocated for understanding and proper services. My pleas were ignored. I was even told not to inquire further.
Eventually, Alvin was discharged to a boarding home without the supports he needed.
Six months later, on Christmas Day, I received a call — Alvin had passed away. My heart sank. That moment changed everything.
I left that role, joined statewide advocacy groups, and dedicated myself to ensuring no one like Alvin would ever fall through the cracks again.
Years later, that mission became reality through my own independent care-management company — empowering individuals with disabilities and seniors to live safely, independently, and with dignity in their communities.
💛 In the name of Alvin, my clients will always have safety, choice, and an empowered life.
